Subj:  MONTHLY POST UPDATE

Greetings,

     Always giving honor to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for some who may not have known, I have been out of the state since mid-August. I want to thank 1st VCDR Marcellus Hutchinson and the Executive Committee for their service while I was away.

      Although not a vacation, I was on government travel to Orlando to attend the Military Health System Research Symposium followed by a week in Tampa to attend the Prince Hall Shriners National Convention. Right after, I traveled to Charlotte, N.C., to attend the 104th National Convention of The American Legion, where I was recognized by The American Legion Media Alliance as a winner in the Editorial/News Writing Category. It felt great to attend and represent Post 828.

      The Adjutant and I have communicated to the Legionnaires regarding online renewals as National Headquarters has not updated our 2024 dues from $41 to $50. This month, we are to be at 50% membership goal of 198. Currently, we are at 71 (17.88%) which is the lowest of 18 Posts in the District.  I am asking all members to renew their dues this week to make our 50% goal by 10 September. 

     There are a couple of ways to accomplish this:

(1) visit the Post this week (Monday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday) and pay the $50 renewal fee (cash/check/debit/credit),

(2) provide you $50 + $2 service fee via the Post’s PayPal: @FredBrockPost828 or CashApp $50 to me at $majbdp, and/or

(3) mail your $50 check to Fred Brock Post 828, P.O. Box 201946, San Antonio, TX 78220.  If you paid $41 online, you will be contacted to pay the $9 balance to the Post.

      If you didn’t hear, we are actively planning on having free monthly live entertainment for you all during our NCO Appreciation Nights held on the first Fridays of the month. We are selling fried fish plates and will have the 2-hour $5 happy hour. Our first musical group was System-XO (August) 2nd second group was R-DO Band (Sept) so come out on first Fridays and enjoy. Shows start at 7pm. Recommendations for live entertainment are welcomed. The Post pays for the entertainment with funds collected from your dues and from canteen operations, so please come out and be part of the activities. Additionally, thanks to those who provided monetary donations at the events. These donations help with the funding of our charitable programs to include Project Shoes, Boys/Girls State, Thanksgiving/Christmas Charity to local school children, etc.

     Once again, thank you all for serving our great Post. If you would like to assist further by serving on a committee, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. Looking for volunteers to serve on the Post Scholarship Committee and Entertainment Committee.
